1. Lung Tonic
The first class in the cycle focuses on Lungs and Large intestine and the element or ‘quality’ of Metal. Known as the tender organs we can experience both the imbalance of long held grief and the attribute of gratitude. Balancing our lungs clears and harmonizes our Lung Qi (energy), mobilizes any long-standing sadness and increases our bodies immunity and creates a calm confidence, with truthfulness and integrity. Think of the trees in Autumn shedding old dead leaves to allow new fresh growth come springtime, with trust and ease.
Enjoy anytime of year or when this description fits the need, and particularly helpful for ‘bolstering’ and ‘letting go’ in Autumn.
2. Kidney Tonic
The second class in the cycle focuses on Kidneys and Urinary Bladder and the element or ‘quality’ of Water. Known as the mansions of fire and water, we can experience both Fear as an imbalance and Wisdom as an attribute. Balancing our Kidney Qi purifies the ‘waters’ of our bodies and can help with creativity and fertility. It can also help in down regulating the high ‘rev’ we might feel at very busy or stressed times in our lives. Kidney practices have an anchoring quality to them that can allow us to feel restored and energized (whatever the balance brings). Think of the tree again drawing its sap deep into the trunk and descending to the roots for hibernation and deep rest. A Tonic for restoration, stress relief and slowing down.
Great at any time of year and when conditions need, and particularly helpful in Winter.
3. Liver Tonic
The third class in the cycle focuses on Liver and Gall Bladder and the element or ‘quality’ of Wood. Here we are balancing our need to be both stable and flexible and see our imbalances show up as anger and frustrations and our healed attributes as compassion and kindness. A major detox organ of the body affectionately known as the governor general, we have plan making, spring cleaning, moving blood and cleaning lymph, whilst distributing energy to thank this pair for. This keeps our fascial body healthy, our emotions even and we can make good healthy decisions for ourselves whilst maintaining healthy boundaries. One of my personal favorites as a Liver practice leaves in its wake a certain ‘peace in the kingdom’.
Take at any time of year or when conditions need and particularly helpful in Spring.
4. Heart Tonic
The fourth class in the cycle and we arrive at the Emperor or Empress of our system! We are focused on Heart /Pericardium and the element or ‘quality’ of Fire. A radiating, generous, inclusive, warm and benevolent ruler when balanced and the imbalance here can be an unquiet spirit, disconnected cold heart, sleeplessness and depression. When we give and receive appropriately and the heart is a safe and free place to hold spirit, JOY prevails.
Taken as a tonic all year round or when conditions need and especially helpful in Summer.
5. Spleen Tonic
The fifth class in the cycle is the centre! It is our Spleen energy and the quality of ‘Earth’ and the season between all seasons ..that little cusp of transition where we may need to reset before changing seasons again, sometimes a chink in the immunity armor (think summer sniffles!) and a time where we may need extra nourishing support. We can feel as an imbalance here worry or pensiveness and as attribute’s: confidence and clarity.
Good for anything ‘digestive’ on all levels, and allows us to feel nurtured with some good usable Qi and an axis point around which we can navigate our lives, centered and sure.
Take any time of year or when conditions need and particularly helpful transitioning seasons.
